Highlights from OPP2007 WEST

OPP2007 West was an overwhelming success! Highlights included two days of seriously practical, intensive training on the latest developments in Oracle's PL/SQL best practices, internet programming with PL/SQL, testing, the launching of the first PL/SQL Test-A-Thon, and the disclosure of the first ODTUG OPP PL/SQL award winners.
Award of Appreciation to the Oracle PL/SQL Development Team
For well over a decade, hundreds of thousands of programmers have used the Oracle PL/SQL language to implement mission-critical applications, and PL/SQL continues to be the best performing mechanism for reading and writing information in the Oracle database. ODTUG, on behalf of PL/SQL developers around the world, proudly presented to the Oracle PL/SQL Development Team an Award of Appreciation as an expression of our thanks and gratitude.
Oracle PL/SQL Innovation and Community Award
The Netherlands-based AMIS Services BV Oracle Team was the first recipient of the OPP Seriously Practical Oracle PL/SQL Innovation and Community Award in recognition of outstanding, creative, and innovative contributions to the worldwide Oracle PL/SQL community.

In my 14 years in IT, I have been to many conferences and most of what is given at the conferences is fluff and vendor fanfare; my real information comes from the networking I do at the conference with the attendees. I will have to say that the OPP2007 conference does not reflect the typical conferences I have attended. All the sessions I attended were full of information that I will be reviewing for a while. When I arrived back at my work, I sent word to the top that OPP2007 is an excellent conference and that they should continue to send their developers to this event. I also recommended that they send a few people to ODTUG Kaleidoscope in June at Daytona Beach.
